I vividly remember attending ‘Art in the Streets’, the first U.S. museum survey of graffiti, as a piney 8th grader about to become a freshman. It traced the development of graffiti from the 1970’s into the worldwide phenomenon it is today. They covered the scene in notable metropolises like LA, NYC, SF, London, and Sao Paolo, illustrating a timeline of creative insurrection that gives me life to this day. The brochure from the exhibit has turned into one of those things that indefinitely lives on your bulletin board, permanently emanating a low hum of energy.
BTS walks in the path that art in the streets paved, highlighting the craft’s origins by deep diving the fabled stories of legendary nyc writers. check out some of our photos from the exhibit. •
